Once used Snazzybags® may enter the recycling chain along with other
plastic laminates under the International "07" plastics recycling
designation.
Typically materials classified as "07" are recycled for
reuse in forms other than in their original form, unlike other plastics
such a polyethylene films which are usually reprocessed into refuse
bags, building film, shopping bags, etc. Much of the existing materials
arising under the "07" designation is being used to produce
plastic wood for end uses, including street furniture, road signs,
fencing
and many types of architectural furniture. The end uses are increasing
all the time and massive sums are being expended in the development
of new processing equipment and methods to exploit the recovery of
this valuable resource of high quality thermoplastics.
"07" filmic materials are also being widely reused for
the production of high quality underlay for flooring applications.
These "07" materials are also used as a Fossil Fuel Substitute
to feed thermal/energy recovery plants and are very efficient due to
their high calorific values. Electricity generation and local heating
schemes are the most common examples.
For further information on the recycling of plastic materials, the
EU Information Offices can provide copies of Commission Directives in
this area. National Recycling Agencies and schemes in all European countries
are obliged to provide information to consumers and industry regarding
legislation and the operation of national schemes. Most European countries
also have Chambers of Commerce and Plastics Industry Associations or
Federations which are a rich source of information and advice on this
topic.
